One in a Million! A Truly Committed Councillor Marion B Martin

I want to pay tribute to Cllr Marion B Martin, my Mother, who stood down in May after an amazing commitment of almost 40 years serving the Community of Kennington, In Ashford, Kent.
Marion began her life as a Councillor in 1976 when the Borough Council as it now is, did not exist, and on the stairs to the Council Chamber, there is a photo from that time, featuring Marion as a newly elected Councillor. This amazing Lady, has served in 3 separate Wards in Kennington, worked tirelessly for local people and never been afraid to stand up for what is right- even when in a minority or completely alone, and I know has been much appreciated by those she has served over the years. She has also served as a School Governor, member of the Environmental Health, Drainage Board, Dungeness Power Station Committee, and the Town Twinning and was involved some years ago in NATO committees in London. She has been a true inspiration to many and been a huge source of help and guidance during my own time as a Councillor. Her commitment, courage, hard work and loyalty have been amazing, and I know that she so much misses the work and difference she could make to so many, since her decision to stand down in May 2019.
On Thursday 17th October, she was made an Honorary Alderman of the Borough of Ashford and it was wonderful to see this Lady, who has served selflessly for so long, receive this little piece of recognition she so deserves!
