Skateboarders and BMX bikers are in for a treat as Ashford Skate Park gets an updated ramp.
Work had already been carried out to refurbish one of the two older skate ramps and now the second has received a revamp too, enhancing the surface with improved grip (just in time for our autumn weather to set in!).
Now more than 15 years old the park is one of the best in the country for bikers, boarders and skaters with over 100 users each day, travelling from all over East Kent to use the facility.
The park has been busy in all weathers and the ramps had been getting tired and worn out. With support from ward councillors, the council managed to source funding to repair the second ramp. Evolution Skateparks also gave the park a repaint.
Joe Palmer, skateboarder, aged 15 said: “I love the new coating on the ramps. It takes a lot less time to dry when it rains and I feel a lot safer riding on them because it is less slippery.”
Simon Woods, Youthworker at Sk8side and Skateboarder, said: “The entire skatepark looks cleaner and skates a lot smoother since the renovation. It means the ramps will be more usable and safer during the winter months.”
