I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy New Year!
I hope that 2014 is filled with good health, good fortune and happiness for you all !
2013 has been a momentous year for me personally. Having returned to the UK after a long absence living abroad , I was delighted to be voted as Councillor for Saxon Shore. It has been a hectic year getting to know the ropes and I know there are still many more of you that I have not yet met. In 2014 I to be door knocking to meet you at least twice each month, and will be posting regular updates via my Facebook page, Twitter, by newsletter and the Parish magazines.
I will also be attending more of the local clubs, and Church events and hope to attend Damian Collins surgeries as often as possible:
Key issues that I will be addressing in early 2014 are :
the Taylor Wimpey development in Aldington, and further developments planned in the updates to the core strategy, the issues of Aldington Meadows where there are structural difficulties with some homes, infrastructure problems and environmental concerns surrounding the open spaces. A meeting is scheduled for the end of January with the Portfolio Holder for Planning and the Leader of Ashford Borough Council. I will also be in communication with the Reverend Martin regarding the path leading to Bilsington Church, liaising with the Bromley Green Road Village Hall committee to save the Village Hall, and lending my support to opposition of wind Farms in the Ruckinge area and indeed the whole Ward: Parking issues nearby schools is an on-going challenge and, both myself and your Kent County Councillor will continue to look for solutions to this issue. Speeding cars on our roads is something that you as residents can reduce- by taking care to observe speed limits and to request respectfully that others visiting the area do the same. The village of Smeeth has successfully reduced speeding by using the “Speed Camera ” – whereby over 50% of offenders, when cautioned, do not reoffend. I am delighted to have pledged financial support for the Commemorative Plaque in Carters Field in Ruckinge and to the planned village Hall extension in Brook. I still have funds available if any local voluntary group has a project that needs help- please get in touch.
Many thanks to you all for your support and feedback in 2013
I look forward to meeting more of you in 2014 and wish you all a very Happy New Year
